Flood Watch issued May 8 at 2:18PM CDT until May 9 at 7:00AM CDT by NWS Paducah KY * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of southern Illinois, including the following areas, Alexander, Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jackson, Johnson, Massac, Perry IL, Pope, Pulaski, Saline, Union, White and Williamson, southwest Indiana, including the following areas, Posey, Spencer, Vanderburgh and Warrick, and southeast Missouri, including the following areas, Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Mississippi, New Madrid, Perry MO, Scott, Stoddard and Wayne MO. * WHEN...Through Thursday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms will produce heavy rainfall capable of flooding commonly flood prone areas. These storms will also have a tendency to repeat their heavy rains over the same areas. Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau affecting Alexander, Union, Jackson, Perry, Cape Girardeau and Scott Counties. * WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau. * WHEN...Until Thursday, May 16. * IMPACTS...At 36.0 feet, The flood gate on Themis Street closes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 10:30 AM CDT Wednesday the stage was 33.5 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 35.5 feet early Monday afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage Thursday, May 16. - Flood stage is 32.0 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads.
